SJI is grateful for the enthusiastic response to our upcoming conference, Through the Portal: Growing the World We Want. Due to overwhelming interest, we have reached full capacity and cannot admit any additional members of the waitlist to attend the event in person.

We do, however, have an option to livestream our conference virtual sessions for free, in English or Spanish. Check out the livestream schedule, which opens with a conversation with Viet Thanh Nguyen on Thursday, September 19, and runs through the weekend, closing on Sunday, September 22 with Democracy Now! co-hosts Amy Goodman, Juan Gonzalez, and more.

To supplement the Call For Art and leading up to the conference, SJI’s Portal Project, Haymarket Books, Art.coop, and Artists for Radical Imagination co-hosted three virtual information sessions for artists and culture workers interested in exchanging with grassroots organizers.

• Economic democracy with Francisco Perez (Economics for Emancipation) and Camila Tapia-Guilliams (Transverse Cooperative);
• Climate justice with Mark Chavez (Climate Justice Alliance);
• Abolition with Richie Reseda (Question Culture).

Through the Portal will host an exhibition of artists whose work uplifts and envisions the worlds we want. We’re looking for artists to submit two-dimensional work in any style that imagines or is inspired by social justice movements. The deadline for submissions is August 26.
